ABOUT JOAN
Joan Frimmer, MSW
Joan Frimmer has a rich background in counseling and social work, and was proudly one of the first MSWs to be licensed by the state of Connecticut.
Since then, she has completed many hours of certification and expanded and honed her areas of expertise over the years, to focus on working with couples, adults, adolescents and young adults. Joan sees patients facing a variety of challenges, and specializes in parenting issues, stress and anxiety, depression, divorce, eating disorders, and addictions. She particularly enjoys her work with young adults, in which she helps them find direction and purpose as they enter and experience a transformative stage of life.
Joan's practice is further enhanced by her prior experience as an educator.
Joan was the first "twos" teacher in Westport, Connecticut, at which point education of this type was a brand new idea. Trained by one of the premiere educators involved in designing Head Start, Bettye Caldwell, Joan has carried the tenants of this platform throughout her career. She worked at Syracuse University's preschool program, as part of the lab program used to develop Head Start. The Head Start experience inspired Joan to pursue a career in Social Work.
Joan extends this expertise into her work with clients one-on-one, and applies much of it directly in her parenting groups.
Joan graduated from Brooklyn College, City University in 1966, and The University of Connecticut School of Social Work, where she received her MSW, in 1988.
